Hello, this is my first blog post!
I intend to blog about law (& maybe business), as might be interesting for international lawyers, for whom I translate.
I have been doing legal translations almost full time since 2004, i.e. for 10 years now.
I have translated for the Belgian Justice full time from 2004 to 2010, then part time, from Dutch, English and Spanish into French (in that order of importance).
I have also translated for foreign & Belgian lawyers and private individuals who needed sworn translations of legal documents from Spanish, English & Dutch into French (in that order of importance).
More recently, I have done legal translations (sworn or not) for translation agencies, from German, Spanish, English and Dutch into French.
I have already translated into Dutch for the Belgian Judiciary, the Belgian Army, a removal company, etc. as I have many years of experience in translating from Dutch.
I am able to translate into English too, as I have a near-mother tongue level in that language.
Indeed, I started learning English when I was only 11 years old, it was my first foreign language during 4 out of my 6 years of secondary education, I was an exchange student in Colorado, USA for a year when I was 18-19 years old, I studied Germanic Philology in English & Dutch for a year, then Translation in English, Spanish and French for 4 years. I worked mostly for English-speaking companies for nearly 20 years, until I started freelancing as a Translator 10 years ago.
So I have been using English for the last 43 years…
Moreover, I obtained almost perfect results at my TOEFL and TWE tests in 1992 (see my LinkedIn profile for figures). These are oral and written tests which allow people to enter U.S. universities.
Finally, a university professor at HEC Saint-Louis, Belgium, once gave me higher results in his ‘Business English’ class than to a young native Irish woman!
For example, I have already translated a very long legal text on intellectual property from French to English for a lawyer’s publication.
